There are certain times throughout the year where worshiping is more important and valuable. One of these times is the current month of Shaban.

Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) used to increase the amount of time worshiping in the month of Shaban more than other months throughout the year. For example, he would spend the majority of the month fasting. The reason as to why he performed these actions was because many people would forget about this month, and he wanted to remind and revive them of its importance. When individuals are heedless of this time, it is beneficial for those who remember its significance to take advantage of earning virtues.

Another reason why Shaban is important is because our deeds that have been recorded are received by Allah during this month. The Prophet, (PBUH), has said that he preferred to be fasting as his deeds were being raised to Allah.

The month of Shaban falls between two important months, Ragab and Ramadan. Because of this, many people forget about this month, which is why it is important to worship even more during this time.

Ibn Al Kaem (may Allah have mercy on him) has explained the following about the raising of our deeds to Allah:

The raise of our deeds to Allah are submitted at different degrees. The times that our deeds are raised to Allah are listed below:

  • During the time of the Fajr prayer and the Asr prayer (Daily)

  • Mondays and Thursdays (Weekly)

  • The month of Shaban (Yearly)

When a human dies, their record of deeds that they have done throughout their entire lifetime is sealed closed. Because of this, it is important for us as believers to complete as many good deeds as we can and continuously worship Allah throughout our lifetime because when we die, there is nothing we can do about it anymore. We must seize the opportunity of the month of Shaban to complete a further amount of worship to earn more good deeds on our record.
