We are currently in the beginning of the month of Rajab, which is one of the four months that are part of Horam. During Al-Jahillayah, people attempted to change the name of the month to continue on with their activities including war and hunting.
During this month, we should try our best to complete more good deeds that the Prophet (PBUH) and his friends would do, without exceeding the limit and completing unnecessary deeds that are not required.
We must be aware that there are many non authentic hadiths about Rajab. It is important to be careful when reading these hadiths regarding Rajab and to research its origin and accuracy from the right sources, including the books of Al-Bukhari and Muslim. There are no hadiths that state the requirements of fasting during Rajab as a way of gaining extra good deeds. Extra prayers that are prayed on Friday are not accurately proven to be a part of Sunnah. Some people believe that on the 27th night of Rajab, a special prayer must be done. Once again, this theory is not proven accurate by any hadiths. Completing Umrah during Rajab is another theory that many people believe should be done, which is also never stated in any hadiths or books. There are no authentic hadiths about completing extra charity or Zakat during Rajab, and the same goes for the false theories of the act of slaughtering as a part of charity.
Bidah should be avoided generally; and as we can interpret from the discussion above, there are many forms of Bidah that can take place during the month of Rajab. These Bidahs have no background and were never proven correct by any hadiths. A good Muslim must be careful and cautious when it comes to these theories, and should try to avoid performing any forms of Bidah in general. We must stick to the right Sunnahs of the Prophet (PBUH).
