The importance of today’s Khotbah is about being oblivious, which means when one is not aware or concerned about what is happening in their surroundings.

In the Quran, Allah has asked us to always consider forgiveness and to keep our distance from ignorant people. In Surah Yusuf (77), it explains the following story:

When Prophet Yusuf’s (PBUH) brother, Benjamin, was accused of stealing, the rest of their brothers mentioned how Benjamin was just like Yusuf, who had done the same thing. The brothers had thought that Prophet Yusuf had not heard them, but he certainly did and continued to act oblivious and did not get angry with them.

Prophet Muhamed (PBUH), has also encouraged others to be forgiving and to have a peaceful heart. He also asked his followers to overlook certain irrelevant issues that may happen in order to prevent hate and conflicts from spreading and in order to keep healthy and happy relationships between each other. Letting go and forgiving is very important when it comes to displaying and representing what a good Muslim is like.

Anass Ibn Malek had claimed that he served the Prophet for ten years, and he had never heard the Prophet speak badly or questioning what he had done. This shows how patient and forgiving the Prophet (PBUH) was.

A benefit of spreading positive morals about forgiveness is that it will help avoid conflicts between family members, especially husbands and wives, childrens with their parents, and friends. Being positive and oblivious towards things that do not concern us will allow us to maintain healthy relationships with each other. Our lives will be less problematic because we won’t have to worry about a stressful amount of things.

By practicing such ethical values of forgiveness and overlooking minor and irrelevant flaws does not make a person weak or defenseless. If you intentionally learn how to let go, forgive, move on, and act oblivious, it will make you a wiser and mature individual, and it will give you superiority.
