In the Quran, it explains that fasting is an obligation for all believers in Islam, just like how it was mandatory for the other nations. The Prophet (PBUH) has also mentioned that one of the five Pillar’s of Islam is fasting.
Soon, we will be entering Ramadan, the month of mercy and forgiveness. The doors of evil will be closed, and the doors of mercy will be widely opened.
During this month ,we should maximize our (Dhiker) to Allah and and thank him for giving us a chance to fast during another month of Ramadan. We must acknowledge how lucky and blessed we are to attend another Ramadan, for many of our brothers are unfortunately unable to be with us this year.
Many people have sins, which will result in them feeling unhappy and depressed. During the month of Ramadan, it is a good time to remember that the door for (Tawba) is open and we must take advantage of every single minute of the month.
In the Quran and Hadith, there are multiple citations about forgiveness and mercy that Allah gives to his believers during the month of Ramadan. Whoever does not take advantage of Ramadan will be considered a failure.
The days of Ramadan are limited and fly by very fast, so we must be prepared to take advantage of all the benefits we have that come with this month and not delay any of the good deeds that we can complete during this time. Even after Ramadan, we must continue on with good behavior. The way we are able to control ourselves during Ramadan should be the way we continue to control ourselves after Ramadan.
An important factor to focus on during Ramadan is to read the Quran. It has been reported by multiple scholars that they will complete reading the entire Quran at least one time during the month of Ramadan.
It is advised to also be moderate in eating during the break-fast time. Avoiding overeating during break-fast is encouraged so we don’t lose the value of fasting during Ramadan.
Finally, we must be aware of the smaller sins that can distract us from the values of Ramadan. For example, listening to music, watching television, and other activities that help kill time are not advised because there are other halal and more rewarding behaviors that could be carried out instead.
