The reason for its descent:
When there was a delay of Wahy (message from the sky from Allah to the Prophet [PBUH] from Jibreel), the people of Mecca said that Allah had forgotten about the Prophet (PBUH). Shortly after, Surah Duha came as a response to these people and to support the Prophet (PBUH).
At the beginning of the Surah, Allah swears in the daytime and the nighttime. Allah can swear with any of his creations that he wants. However, his creations (humans) cannot swear on anything else except Allah.
Allah swears that he had not forgotten or abandoned his Prophet (PBUH).
Allah told his Prophet (PBUH) that whatever he has prepared for him in the afterlife is much better than anything he will ever experience during his lifetime.
Allah had also told the Prophet (PBUH) that he would be given all good things until he was satisfied, whether it was in this lifetime or the next.
One of the things that was given to the Prophet (PBUH) was that his name would be mentioned during every prayer that is done by us on a daily basis (shahada) , including the Adaan.
Allah reminded the Prophet (PBUH) with all the good things that happened to him and all everything that he has been blessed with. The Prophet (PBUH) was born as an orphan; his father died before he was born. However, after his birth, there were always good people around him to raise and support him. His grandfather (Abd el-muttelab) and then his uncle (Abu Taleb) were a couple of individuals that raised him.
Prior to Allah and his guidance towards the Prophet (PBUH), he wasn’t on the right path. After sending the Wahy and Jibreel, Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) was led to the right path. Allah provided the Prophet (PBUH) with money and supplied him with richness, even though he had come from a poor background. He was married to a rich woman as well, named Khadiga.
Allah advised the Prophet (PBUH) to be supportive towards the orphan, be generous to the poor, and always appreciate whatever Allah blessed him with. This advice is for the Prophet (PBUH) and for all of his followers behind him.
